Kristoff Kontos traded to Saginaw Spirit
PENETANGUISHENE – Passport and hockey bag in tow, Kristoff Kontos will head to the United States to continue his Ontario Hockey League career.
The Mississauga Steelheads have traded the Penetanguishene native to the Saginaw Spirit in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2014 and a seventh-round pick in 2015 |

The New team is has been branded to reflect more about the Mississauga local area thus Mississauga Steelheads, a native Lake Ontario member of the Salmon family that spawns in the Port Credit River annually. The new look is being well received as the team has gone with traditional Toronto Maple Leaf blue and white colours.

MISSISSAUGA - Mississauga St. Michael's Majors Head Coach and General Manager James Boyd announced a trade with the Sudbury Wolves on Thursday, acquiring forward Kristoff Kontos in exchange for forward Derek Schoenmakers, a conditional 1st round pick in the 2013 CHL Import Draft, and a conditional 4th round draft pick in 2014. Kontos, an 18-year-old centre from Penetang, Ontario, is currently in his third OHL season and has scored 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points this season. Through three seasons, Kontos has amassed 26 goals and 39 assists for 65 points in 182 career regular season and playoff games with the Wolves. His eleventh goal this season versus the Peterborough Petes on January 1st, 2012 marked a career high for Kontos, and with 25 points this season is just seven points back of setting a career best in points during the regular season. Schoenmakers, a 19-year old right winger from Kitchener, Ontario is in his third OHL season – all with the Majors – and has registered 25 points (13-12) in 37 games played this season. Schoenmakers set new career highs in goals, assists and points this season, and boasts 27 goals and 28 assists for 55 points in 133 career regular season and playoff games. Penetanguishene native, Kristoff Kontos, is working his way towards his goal of becoming a National League Hockey player some day. The North Central Predators AAA graduate is in his 2nd season in the OHL and is eligible for the NHL Draft in 2012 as his birth date falls late in the year December 6th, 1993, giving him an extra season of development.

Justin Sefton, Frank Corrado and Kristoff Kontos will be a part or an overhaul that the Sudbury Wolves hopes pays dividends in the coming years. The Wolves draft players from all over every year but they are hoping this trio has the right chemistry and leadership to build a strong foundation. All 3 players come highly touted from their respective organisations and with some OHL development, they all hope to improve and build a winning team that is capable of competing for the elusive Memorial Cup.
